LPN PEER EXCELLENCE AWARDSThe purposes of these awards are to recognize the individuals who exemplify excellence as a Licensed Practical Nurse. The Licensed Practical Nurses Association is seeking nominations of LPNs practicing on PEI who demonstrate consistent excellence in practice.
Criteria for SelectionCandidates for the LPN Peer Recognition Award must:
- Be a member of the PEI Licensed Practical Nurses Association.
- Have a minimum of two years of clinical practice.
- Serve as a role model to peers by providing excellent patient care.
- Demonstrate a commitment to life-long learning.
- Promote and advance the Practical Nursing role within their place of employment and/or within the community.
Nomination InformationA LPN must make the nomination. Nominations for this award must be submitted on the form provided. The nomination must be signed by the nominator, as well as the nominee.
Award BenefitsThe award recipients will receive free registration to the LPN Fall Conference (valued at $50), an award certificate, a peer recognition lapel pin, and a letter of recognition sent to their employer.

2009Anne Dumphy
Barb Bardeau
Barb is both a patient and nursing advocate. In the hospital, she focused on excellent patient care. Her efforts to promote high standards for the profession have included many volunteer hours with the PEI Union of Public Sector Employees, The LPN Association and the LPN Registration Board. Her volunteer commitments demonstrate her natural tendency to lead by example.
Cindy Dawson
Cindy has been nursing for more than 25 years. She has worked in both long-term and acute care. Cindy has been a mentor to many new graduate nurses throughout her career.
Cindy comes from the old school of nursing; where cleanliness and spot free bed baths are #1. Now she has risen to the challenge of the LPN. She has so by embracing new responsibilities and learning new skills.
Pam Grant
Pam is a highly organized, competent professional nurse. She mentors many LPNs –both students and staff. Pam’s warmth and compassion help residents move from home to long-term care. When she’s not working, she often returns to the manor to play guitar.
2008Blair Matheson
Blair is very proud LPN. He has advanced skills in orthopedics and his involvement in teaching and sharing with all students has been highly appreciated by the staff and students at the QEH.
Helen Burke
A graduate in 1971, and still practicing with energy and dedication to all! Helen is a strong advocate for our population with mental illness, as well as being a vouunteer for the White Cross. She is always putting the needs of others a head of herself.

Karen has helped many people in becoming familiar with Unit #2 protocol and also to feel comfortable and supported as a LPN.
Kay Coffin
Kay gives excellent patient care. Her assessment skills are second to none and in that aspect she is always advocating for the patient in her warm and competent manner.

Muriel is a great role model. - She loves nursing. As stated by Muriel - "Knowledge is Power and Health Assessment is very Powerful."
Sharon Drake
Sharon has been an advocate for LPNs for years. She always thinks of patients and families and always goes the extra mile.

Sharon is an excellent nurse and she's front and center for LPNs.
