The Nova Scotia Community College Re‐Entry to Practice course has been approved by the PEILPNRB.
Holland College does not offer a re‐entry program.

The course has been designed for completion within an eleven month time frame. Content is presented using distance delivery, on‐site labs and clinical experience. There are three clinical preceptor ships, which must be completed in this course.

Following the program introduction, learners review the Canadian Health care delivery system along with their roles and responsibilities in relation to this system.

The course provides for a basic review in anatomy and physiology, nutrition, growth and development and the social sciences, Alternations in health care are considered in terms of self‐care deficits and include clients in long‐term, acute care and community settings. The concepts relating to community nursing are introduced and then incorporated throughout the course. A module on professional practice includes ethics, values, legal aspects, leadership, scope of practice and the profession.

Content is then expanded in subsequent modules and focuses on:

• Infection control/safety incorporating a microbiology review
• Mobility and immobility
• Gerontology
• Loss, death and grieving
• Communication
• Substance /people abuse
• Physical assessment of the health body
